A design based on a youthful and bright aesthetic with materials intended to create a graphic impact
Holiland’s new patisserie and bakery concept in Shanghai’s Vanke mall is our first project in the city. We conceived a design based on a youthful and bright aesthetic with materials intended to create a graphic impact to best showcase the hand-crafted cake selection to customers.
Geometry is central to the design, using curved and rectangular volumes to draw attention to each of the display niches. In creating the retail concept, we shaped all aspects of the interior, from the architectural finishes and joinery to the façade, utilising a combination of refined materials presented in a soft colour palette of oak wood, pink resin and two variations of terrazzo.
The new Holiland concept, set across 103.sqm offers a welcome departure from traditional patisserie layouts, providing moments of retail theatre via internal windows through which customers can view the patisserie chefs making hand-crafted delicacies. The bakery’s exterior allows customers to peruse the cake selection through an external kiosk, while offering outdoor seating in a green setting populated with planters. The blurring between interior and exterior extends to the terrazzo tiled floor finish, intended to draw the customer’s eye into the space.
